Oh Idol, My Idol

The day has finally arrived.

Adam Lambert and Kris Allen go head-to-head tonight for Idol supremacy.

Of course, I’m cheering for Adam. But, my friends and I do wonder.

Are we ready for a gay Idol?

adamlambertNow, Adam has neither confirmed or denied his sexual orientation. However, I think everyone’s “gay-dar” pretty much sounded off full blast when he first auditioned. Plus, there are those pictures…

Unfortunately, we can’t vote because we’re Canadian. Boo!

I don’t know about you, but I believe that Adam is the much better singer. However, history has shown that the best singer doesn’t always win (e.g. Jennifer Hudson, Katherine McPhee). I don’t think there has been an Idol finale with two contestants so divergent in style and substance.

Adam is all rock god, Cher, and musical theatre.  Kris is all apple pie , “aw shucks”, and wholesomeness. Left wing versus right wing.  Flamboyant versus conservative. Eye liner versus…you get the idea.krisallen

Now, a homosexual Idol is not out of the question. Runner-up Clay Aiken came out last year. And, the first winner of “Pop Idol” (the British show on which “American Idol” is based), Will Young,  revealed that he was queer shortly after winning the title.

I hope people focus on the talent and leave personal choice out of the equation. But, you never know. There has been that huge brouhaha over Carrie Prejean’s public opposition to same-sex marriage. Not that she did anything wrong in voicing her opinion. Granted, she wasn’t very eloquent.  “Opposite marriage”? Geez…

But, it is her right to have an opinion. Just as it is my right to vehemently disagree with her and think that she is narrow-minded and ignorant.

Btw, does anyone think that she should have relinquished her title of Miss California when those topless pics of her were published? Vanessa Williams gave up her crown. Just saying.

Anyway, it should be a great show tonight. I guess it doesn’t really matter who wins in the end. They’ll both get deals out of it. I can’t wait to hear Adam’s music in the club though!

It may be easier to think of Carrie as ignorant (she is a pageant queen, after all), but I think if you speak to someone halfway intelligent who is OPPOSED to SSM, you’d find that we have real, informed, well-thought-out opinions.

I’m pretty happy that Allen won. Adam Lambert is talented, but much less marketable. We’ve already got one Clay Aiken.

Is Idol about being marketable? How do you explain Taylor Hicks winning over Katherine McPhee? David Cook over David Archuleta? No matter. Adam is going to be a star regardless.

      Best season of Idol ever!

  2. Good to know you Canadians up there appreciate good music. LOL. Too bad you all couldn’t have voted and maybe avoided this travesty. You are part of North AMERICA, after all. :)
